I experimented with fish waste for a short self-initiated project.
The material that I chose came from a gut feeling that Glasgow would be a city with a lot of fish waste. As Scotland is surrounded by sea, there is a cultural existence of fish on restaurants menus and a good amount of fishmongers around the city.
Coming from ethical considerations, my interest for fish waste got me to contact several addresses where kilos of leftovers go to trash every day,
and I could easily source my material.
I then experimented freely with those by-products of the food industry,
in combination with bioplastics from corn and potato starch.
I envisioned an opportunity for food packaging there and I am looking forward to continuing this research in the future.
